Kirtan Concert with David Newman

May 8th, 2014 @ 7:00pm

Hartford Seminary welcomes chant artist David Newman (Durga Das) for an evening of live Kirtan chant music. While staying true to India’s ancient chant tradition, he maintains a distinct flavor of musicality, devotional mysticism, and poetic intimacy. David is an educator of Bhakti Yoga – the yoga of love, and so he aligns his music with the yoga tradition of sound as a healing path toward self discovery. His performances have been described as joyous, energetic, and uplifting.

David Newman has released eight full-length cds, including his latest with Krishna Venkatesh entitled Travel Well (2014), released on White Swan Records. David, who has been described as a “dedicated troubadour of chant and sacred song,” has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and in The Washington Post and Yoga Journal among many others.

$20 in advance, $25 at the door.

Please visit David Newman’s website for more information and samples of his work
